Safe Community has new website

Just in time for the new school year, the Welland Safe Community Partnership (WSCP) has announced that its community website has been officially launched.

The website, which can be found at welland.safecommunities.ca, provides up-to-date information on the programs and accomplishments of the WSCP, as well as several links to other safety-related resources.

"There have been several exciting undertakings within the past year, including the National Report Card, the development of business and volunteer safety ambassador awards and new designation criteria," said Bill Auchterlonie WSCP chair. "Additionally, the foundation is taking a greater role in making it easier for designated communities to reach their stakeholders through the development of websites and training workshops and materials."

In conjunction with the other 47 designated Safe Communities across the country, the WSCP will celebrate Safe Communities Day on Wednesday, Oct 3.

As part of the celebration, the WSCP will recognize a local recipient for the business safety ambassador award.

"We'd also like to recognize a volunteer in the community who has played a role in improving safety," says Bill Auchterlonie.

Nominations are being accepted until tomorrow.

Anyone who would like to nominate an individual of any age for the volunteer safety ambassador award can send an e-mail to welland@safecommunities.ca with their own and the nominee's contact information, along with a description as to what the nominee has done to improve safety.
